About Jami
I am an experienced science educator with a strong academic background in both biology and science education. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Mount Holyoke College, followed by a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Nebraska and a Master’s degree in Science Education from New York University (NYU). I am currently completing my Doctorate of Education in Curriculum & Instruction, with a focus on secondary science education.
Over the past several years, I have taught Biology, AP Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and college-level biology to students with a wide range of academic backgrounds and confidence levels. I have worked with students who feel completely overwhelmed by science as well as advanced students preparing for AP exams and college coursework.
My experience has taught me that there is no single “right” way to explain a difficult concept. Sometimes a student simply needs to hear it explained differently, see a better example, or make a connection that finally helps everything click.
As a teacher, I care deeply about making rigorous science accessible, relevant, and understandable without watering it down.

My lessons are designed to make science feel clear, approachable, and connected to the real world. Rather than relying on memorization alone, I focus on helping students understand the why behind biological concepts so they can apply what they learn to new questions, exams, and real-life situations.
I have extensive experience teaching Biology, AP Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and college-level biology, and I tailor each lesson to the individual student’s goals, learning style, and current level of understanding.
During our sessions, students can expect:
Clear, step-by-step explanations of difficult concepts
Visual models, diagrams, and real-world examples
Practice with AP-style, Regents-style, and classroom assessment questions
Strategies for interpreting graphs, data, experiments, and scientific passages
Support with homework, test preparation, lab concepts, and study skills
Frequent checks for understanding so we can identify and correct misconceptions early
For AP Biology students, I can also provide targeted support with FRQs, data analysis, experimental design, graph interpretation, and College Board-style multiple-choice questions.
My goal is not simply to help students get through their next assignment or exam. I want students to leave our lessons with a stronger understanding of science, greater confidence in their ability to solve problems, and strategies they can continue using independently.
