About Matthew
As an alumnus of Xi'an International Studies University (西安外国语言大学) and a dedicated educator with 16 years of immersive Chinese language experience since 2010, I bring both academic rigor and a deep passion for the language to every lesson. Previously, I served as a Chinese instructor and the head of the Chinese Language Studies Group at Cal Poly Humboldt. We will break down the anatomy of Chinese characters, learning radicals and the most common characters so you can understand how Chinese writing is constructed rather than simply memorizing vocabulary. As you progress, we will read Chinese comic books together and gradually work our way toward authentic Chinese articles. I will also teach you the techniques and strategies I personally used to become fluent in reading Chinese, giving you a clear path from recognizing individual characters to confidently reading real Chinese.
