About Yoori
Hello! My name is Yoori, and I am a classically trained pianist with over 15 years of teaching experience.
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and have pursued advanced studies in Collaborative Piano. I am currently continuing my education in Quebec as I work toward becoming a public school music teacher.
Over the years, I have taught students of different ages and abilities, from young beginners to adults returning to piano after many years away. I particularly enjoy guiding students through their long-term musical journey and helping them build confidence step by step.
Students and parents often describe me as patient, structured, and encouraging. I believe in creating a supportive environment while also maintaining clear expectations that help students progress steadily over time.
Outside of teaching, I am a lifelong musician who genuinely enjoys sharing the value of music education with others. I teach in English, Korean, and French and welcome children, teenagers, and adults of all backgrounds and experience levels.

I offer personalized piano lessons for children, teenagers, and adults of all levels, from complete beginners to intermediate students.
My ultimate goal as a piano teacher is to help students become confident and independent musicians. I want them to look at a new piece of music and feel capable of understanding what they are seeing, rather than feeling overwhelmed. In many ways, learning music is like learning a new language. Students gradually learn to recognize patterns, rhythms, articulations, dynamics, and musical ideas until reading music becomes a skill they can confidently apply on their own.
My lessons are tailored to each student's age, goals, and learning style. For beginners, I usually start with finger exercises such as Schmitt exercises and later introduce Hanon exercises to develop finger dexterity, hand coordination, and familiarity with the keyboard. Building a strong technical foundation early on makes learning pieces easier and more enjoyable in the long term.
A typical lesson may include:
Finger exercises and technical development
Posture, hand position, and relaxation techniques
Learning and refining repertoire
Rhythm training and sight-reading
Music theory integrated into lessons
Developing effective and independent practice habits
I also believe it is important to acknowledge that piano is not an easy instrument to learn. It requires patience, consistency, and dedication. Pianists constantly ask their two hands to perform different tasks simultaneously while paying attention to notes, rhythm, articulation, dynamics, phrasing, and expression.
Because of this, I believe learning an instrument is a remarkable accomplishment. Listening to music is one way of enjoying music, but learning to play an instrument is a completely different experience that requires discipline, perseverance, and hard work.
I strive to create a supportive environment where students learn that progress does not happen overnight and that challenges are a normal and valuable part of the learning process. While lessons should be enjoyable and engaging, I also help students understand that meaningful growth often comes from working through difficult moments rather than avoiding them.
One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is watching students develop confidence, resilience, and pride in what they have accomplished. I am always proud of my students—and their parents—for their commitment and perseverance throughout the journey.
Lessons are available in English, Korean, and French.
