About Charlene
I’m Charlene, an experienced former Head of English, Media Studies and Drama with nineteen years of teaching behind me. I teach because I genuinely enjoy helping students understand challenging ideas, build confidence and realise what they’re capable of. Seeing a student make progress, feel proud of their work and grow into an independent learner is what motivates me every day. My goal is to support you, challenge you and help you achieve your best with clarity and confidence.

My lessons are structured to build confidence, secure rapid progress and develop genuine independence across A-Level, GCSE, KS3 and home-schooling pathways. As an experienced former Head of English, Media Studies and Drama, I bring nineteen years of curriculum leadership, exam expertise and proven impact.
Every session is personalised. I begin by assessing each learner’s starting point, identifying gaps, strengths and misconceptions. From there, I design a clear learning plan that blends high-impact modelling, guided practice, targeted feedback and structured literacy development. Lessons incorporate Rosenshine’s Principles, explicit vocabulary instruction and exam-technique coaching to ensure students know what to do and how to do it.
I provide stretch and challenge for high-attaining learners through advanced questioning, comparative analysis tasks, deeper conceptual discussion and extended writing that pushes them beyond the specification. For example, a strong GCSE student might explore alternative interpretations of a character, evaluate critical viewpoints or practise writing higher-band evaluative paragraphs with precise, academic vocabulary.
At the same time, I am highly experienced in supporting students with special educational needs. I use scaffolded writing frames, chunked tasks, dual-coding, retrieval practice and clear modelling to reduce cognitive load. A SEND learner might work through step-by-step guided examples, sentence starters, structured planning templates or targeted reading strategies that build confidence and independence. I adapt pace, resources and explanations to ensure every student can access the learning and make meaningful progress.
Whether your child needs confidence-building support, structured home-schooling, exam-focused preparation or high-level challenge, my lessons are calm, clear, engaging and tailored to their individual needs.
