About Ava
Hello, my name is Ava, and I am a college student who graduated high school and earned my associate degree by age 17. I have experience tutoring math to middle and high school students and am passionate about helping students build both understanding and confidence in their abilities. My teaching approach focuses on step-by-step explanations, practical problem-solving strategies, and tailoring lessons to each student’s unique learning style. My approach as a tutor is focused on clarity, patience, and building real understanding rather than memorization. I believe students learn math best when they feel comfortable asking questions and when concepts are broken down into logical, manageable steps. As a former math tutor, I adapt my teaching style to each student’s learning pace and preferred methods, whether that means visual examples, guided practice, or real-world applications.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to identify what the student is currently learning and where they may be feeling stuck. From there, I explain the concept step by step, modeling how to approach problems and why each step matters. We then work through practice problems together before the student tries similar problems independently, with support as needed. I always leave time at the end to review key takeaways and reinforce confidence.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my analytical yet supportive teaching style. I focus on helping students understand how to think through math problems, not just how to get the right answer. As a college student, I also understand academic pressure and effective study strategies, which allows me to help students build both skills and confidence.
My lessons are designed for middle school and high school students, particularly those taking pre-algebra, algebra, or general math courses who want extra support, clearer explanations, or help keeping up with class material. I work especially well with students who feel overwhelmed by math or need concepts explained in a more approachable, structured way.
