About Thomas
I am a social work student and an experienced frontline residential childcare worker, supporting children and young people in care on a daily basis. Alongside my academic studies, I work directly with vulnerable children, giving me a strong understanding of how social work theory, legislation, and children’s rights apply in real-life practice.
I specialise in children’s rights, safeguarding, social policy, and reflective practice, and I regularly apply these areas both in university assignments and in frontline work. This means I can help students not only understand the theory, but also how to use it confidently in essays, placements, and professional settings.
I began tutoring because I remember how overwhelming social work training can feel. My goal is to make learning clearer, more supportive, and more practical, helping students build both knowledge and confidence.

My teaching approach focuses on making social work clear, practical, and directly applicable to real-life practice. Social work can often feel overwhelming, with complex theories, legislation, and policies to remember. I break these down into simple, manageable steps and show you how to apply them confidently in assignments, exams, and placements.
Rather than lecturing, my sessions are interactive and collaborative. I encourage questions, discussion, and reflection so you fully understand the “why” behind the theory, not just memorising information. I regularly draw on real frontline examples from residential childcare and safeguarding work to help connect learning to practice.
A typical lesson may include:
Clarifying key concepts or theories Working through assignment questions or essay plans,
Applying legislation and children’s rights to case examples Practising reflective writing and critical analysis,
Placement preparation and professional skills building.
Each session is tailored to your goals, whether you need help improving grades, preparing for placement, understanding policy and law, or building confidence in your knowledge.
My aim is not just to help you pass, but to help you think and practise like a social worker. By the end of our sessions, you should feel more confident, capable, and ready to apply what you have learned in both university and real-world settings.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Thomas created a supportive, engaging learning environment that was firmly grounded in real-world youth work practice.
Thomas encouraged critical thinking, reflection, and open discussion, making complex topics feel accessible and relevant rather than abstract.
One experience that really stood out was working through challenging issues around safeguarding and professional boundaries. These discussions were handled with care, honesty, and depth, helping us develop confidence and ethical awareness as future practitioners.
I would highly recommend Thomas to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely supportive tutor!View more recommendations
