About Ben
I’m a Northerner who’s settled in Southampton, working full-time as a graphic designer and leading a creative team. I’ve been in the industry for over 7 years, and I also run local creative events and get involved with the design community here. I’ve always had that “older brother” mentality — I like supporting people who are a step or two behind me, especially juniors who are trying to get their foot in the door. My approach is friendly, straightforward, and conversational. Outside of design, I’m into sports, socialising, and keeping life pretty grounded. Working with me isn’t about sitting through a lecture — it’s about honest feedback, practical advice, and keeping things relaxed but useful.

I like to keep sessions practical, relaxed, and shaped around you. Some weeks it might be a portfolio review with honest, constructive feedback; other times, a Q&A about breaking into the industry, or just a conversational deep-dive into UX, branding, or design careers. Think of it less like a lecture, more like having a mentor who’s been where you are and wants to help you grow. Lessons are usually 60 minutes, but I’m flexible — if you need a bit more time to unpack ideas, we’ll take it. Sessions adapt to your level and experience, so whether you’re just starting out or polishing a final portfolio, you’ll always get something useful to take away. I’ve got a degree in Graphic Design New Media, 7+ years of professional experience, and I currently lead a creative team. Alongside that, I’m an official Friends of Figma leader and have spent 3+ years mentoring students at Solent University. My lessons are especially for junior designers, recent graduates, and students aiming for their first creative role. My goal is to make every session supportive, insightful, and — importantly — enjoyable.
