Sara is a respected tutor in our community. She is highly recommended for her commitment and the quality of her lessons. An excellent choice to progress with confidence.
About Sara
I’m an experienced, qualified Humanities teacher, and I work hard to make sure students and families feel confident and supported from the very first lesson.
My practice is grounded in evidence-informed teaching, clear explanations and structured lessons, so students always know what we are learning, why it matters, and how to improve. I prepare thoroughly, arrive on time, and provide resources and feedback that are tailored to each learner’s needs and goals. I also communicate openly with parents and carers where appropriate, keeping them informed of progress and next steps.
Above all, I want students to feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes and stretch themselves, knowing they are working with a calm, reliable professional who has many years of classroom experience and a genuine commitment to their success.

I teach in a structured, evidence-informed way that is warm, clear and highly focused on impact for each learner.
Techniques and methodology
My approach draws on Visible Learning, retrieval practice and the science of learning to make progress explicit and measurable.
In a typical series of lessons I will:
Clarify learning intentions and success criteria so students know exactly what “good” looks like.
Use explicit instruction, modeling and worked examples to reduce cognitive load when introducing new ideas.
Build in frequent, low-stakes retrieval (short quizzes, questioning, quick-writes) to strengthen long-term memory and exam performance.
Provide timely, specific feedback and use student work as feedback on my own impact, adjusting pace, scaffolds and challenge accordingly.
Teach metacognitive strategies, helping students plan, monitor and evaluate their own learning so they become independent, self-regulated learners.
Relationships and classroom climate are central: I aim for a safe, respectful space where questions are welcomed, mistakes are treated as information, and diverse backgrounds and needs are recognized as assets.
Most tutoring sessions run for 60 minutes, with 90-minute sessions available for senior exam classes or extended coursework support.
A standard 60-minute lesson usually includes: a brief review and retrieval of prior learning, explicit teaching and modeling of new content or skills, guided practice with feedback, and independent application or exam-style questions to consolidate understanding.
Longer sessions allow additional time for extended writing, source analysis, revision planning, or support with major assessments and research tasks.
I am a qualified secondary Humanities teacher with a BA (Hons) in History and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Wales, Swansea.
I have 29 years of classroom experience across Australia and the UK, teaching History, Geography and Humanities from lower secondary through to senior courses such as ATAR, WACE, GCSE, A-Level and IB.
My background includes curriculum design, coordination of student leadership and service-learning programs, mentoring graduate teachers, and specialist work in inclusive education and disability standards.
I also have extensive experience designing digital resources, using learning platforms and formative assessment tools, and integrating short, focused video content to support blended and online learning.
My lessons are designed for:
- Lower and middle secondary students (approximately ages 11-16) needing confidence, core skill-building and support with Humanities, History and Geography.
- Senior students (16-18) preparing for high-stakes examinations and assessments in courses such as ATAR/WACE Humanities, GCSE, A-Level, and IB MYP/DP Individuals and Societies.
- Neurodivergent and diverse learners who benefit from structured routines, explicit scaffolding, and thoughtful use of accessibility tools.
I work comfortably with students in local and international contexts, both online and in person, and I tailor each program to the learner’s goals, school syllabus, and preferred ways of working.

Sara was my history teacher for over five years, throughout my entire high school experience, and I can honestly say she is one of the most impactful educators I’ve ever had.
From the very beginning, Sara had an incredible ability to make history engaging, relevant, and genuinely interesting. She doesn’t just teach content—she brings it to life. Whether it was breaking down complex topics or connecting past events to the modern world, she made every lesson feel meaningful and easy to understand.
What sets Sara apart is her consistency and dedication. Over the years, she was always patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in her students’ success. She took the time to ensure everyone understood the material, no matter their starting point, and created an environment where you felt comfortable asking questions and pushing yourself.
I personally saw a huge improvement in both my confidence and academic performance because of her teaching. She doesn’t just aim for good results—she helps you develop critical thinking skills and a real appreciation for learning.
I would highly recommend Sara to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, reliable, and inspiring tutor. She goes above and beyond for her students, and you can trust that you’re in very capable hands.Sara is a very good tutor in the sense that she can break down very complex and boring concepts/events to be digestible and easy to learn.
Sara is an exceptional educator who literally brings humanities to life. She has a genuine passion for the subject and a natural ability to connect historical and cultural themes to modern contexts, making every lesson engaging and deeply relevant.
Ms Priest was my history teacher for 3 years! She was absolutely amazing at teaching me tips to improve my writing and historical skills. My high school ATAR Modern History teacher. Such a knowledgeable down to earth human being who has everyone’s best interest in heart. She taught me life lessons as well as so much in a class setting. She’s supportive and hard working and helped me achieve highly in her class. Her lessons were continually engaging and left me excited to come to my next lesson. Couldn’t recommend a better teacher/ lecturer to anyone.
I’ve had Sara as my Modern History ATAR teacher in Year 11 and Year 12, and she has been one of the most supportive and dedicated teachers I’ve ever had.
What I appreciated most about her teaching was how in-depth and engaging she made every topic. She explained content clearly, but also used a variety of learning techniques which really helped me understand the course rather than just memorise it. She always made sure every student felt confident and included, no matter their level.
One shared experience I’ll always remember is working through past exam questions and essay plans together in class. She always put so much effort into helping us improve and gave detailed feedback that genuinely made a difference.
I would highly recommend Sara to any future history students. She is passionate, knowledgeable, and truly cares about helping her students succeed.
