About Miguel
Hello! I an experienced and patient tutor living in Vancouver. I have a Master degree in Physics and recently graduated from a PhD degree in chemistry.
I have been a TA of physics and chemistry courses for seven years and private tutor for math and physics for five years. I understand the main difficulties students have when learning these topics for the first time and will help you to overcome it. I can tutor college and upper level high school (grades 10-12, ) courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry.
I also have experience tutoring AP, IB and SAT subject tests in math, physics and chemistry.
I am available to meet in person at UBC or nearby in Vancouver. I am also available for help online. Whether you want recurring sessions or just a review before your exam, send me a message to discuss your needs!

My teaching methodology starts by providing you with intuition of the topic at hand. This will allow you to have a deeper conceptual understanding. Only after you understand the topic, we proceed to solve specific problems. I will show you step by step how to solve some problems, as well as I will guide you to solve your own. I will also show you how the solution fits into the conceptual understanding of the topic, in a way that will enable you to tackle new problems that you have never seen before.

Details
My regular rate is $50 per hour. This rate applies both for online lessons and for in person sessions within Vancouver proper.
I can travel to Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster for an additional $30 fee per session (not per hour). If you live in Richmond within walking distance from Canada line I can wave this fee. I can travel to Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Coquitlam for an additional $50 per session.
I offer discounts for buying lessons in bulk: $225 for 5 hours ($45 per hour), and $400 for 10 hours ($40 per hour). Please note that these are not refundable if you decide not to finish your hours. The travel expense fee still applies if I have to travel outside Vancouver proper.
