About Annie
I am an enthusiastic maths (and science) teacher with a science degree and qualifications in teaching maths and science. I have a deeply held belief that everyone can and should be comfortable with maths. Too many people are scared of maths although it is a skill they use every day, usually without even thinking about it. I have spent years working with home-educated 14-year-olds who may not have learned much maths and want to take their exams and 16-year-olds who are retaking their GCSEs. I have also taught adults long out of school who need to get a GCSE in maths to pursue a new career in teaching or nursing. I can help you to gain confidence and improve your everyday or GCSE maths.

All sessions are online. In addition to the session, you, whether attending one-to-one or group sessions, have one optional free of charge 15 minute session per full length session during which you can ask questions you didn't feel able, or have the time to during the main session. (Please note that this session cannot be used to replace one you have missed). One-to-one sessions can be tailored to your needs while group sessions (up to six students) are on specific topics and at specific times. Even in group sessions it is possible to explain concepts in different ways, as in a classroom, so whichever you choose, I aim to meet your requirements. I use a combination of pen-and-paper, worksheets and electronic resources. Whichever type of session you choose, learning materials are supplied prior to the start of the session. For group sessions, I aim to cover a part of the syllabus (Number and Algebra, Geometry and Measures, Statistics and Probability) every six weeks. All three topic areas run in different slots during the week, so if you want to cover Geometry and Measures first, or that is the only topic you need, you can be slotted into that group. Group sessions run during term time. One-to-one students can choose whichever topic they want to cover, and the sessions are also available during the school holidays. I don't only teach formal, examined GCSE maths. I'm happy to help you to improve your everyday maths, or assess the level of maths you have. You might know more than you think you know! I take students aged 14 and upwards. There is no upper limit - everyone has a right to learn - but I don't tutor anyone below that age because everyone has a right to play too. I welcome nervous students and those who find or have found maths at school a trial. I also welcome parents who would like to be able to support their child but have found that they have forgotten too much, didn't learn enough in the first place, or don't know where to start. It is never too late. (Please note that I will not tutor mixed aged groups. Teenagers in one group, over 18s in another.)

I am delighted to recommend Annie as she taught my twin granddaughters Maths and English several years ago. As a result, they went on to obtain first class degrees at University which will stand them in good stead for the future.
She was very kind and patient with them and increased their confidence to do well at school.
Regards
Janet Rayner
I am delighted to have known Annie for more than 10 years. During this time I've been constantly impressed by her enthusiasm and diligence. She's particularly adept at relating to people who feel nervous about learning and in providing them with supportive reassurance.
