About Simran

About Me! I am an ex-finance professional (London - Management Consulting) with over 6 years of tutoring experience. I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a 2.1 BSc (Hons) Economics degree. In my spare time, I am a certified badminton coach and love to keep fit! Why am I tutoring? After 5 years working in Finance in London, I realised that to get the top jobs, you often need an excellent education and achieve amazing grades. But like myself in school, I had to get a tutor as I was struggling in a few subjects. My tutor helped me achieve top grades which led me to work in a top field which few rarely get to do. I want to help others achieve this the same way I did...through tutoring. I made the full-time switch from Finance to tutoring in Jan 2022 and have never looked back! Education is absolutely key and is somewhere I want to work long term. What kind of experience do I have? I have been a Maths GCSE tutor for 6 years and an A Level Economics tutor for 3 years (both across all boards). I have managed around 35 students within this time whilst balancing a full-time job. I am now looking to take on more students as I pursue tutoring full-time. I have tutored students of all capabilities which included A students who need that A*, or failing students who just needed to pass. I am a firm believer that everyone can understand a subject, but it's the way you go about teaching that influences how *much* they understand. My best achievement to date: I tutored a GCSE Maths student who was predicted a D in Maths. I felt like he knew the curriculum, he just lacked direction. My biggest strength is building relationships, so I was able to relate to him on a personal level and I tailored the lessons to his style of learning. He loved examples compared to just being taught theory. After our many sessions, he managed to receive an A grade in his Maths GCSE and attended a top 20 UK university after his A Levels! He has just started his own business and I am still in touch with him. He regularly tells me he wouldn't have been able to achieve this without my tutoring, but really, I just gave him guidance!

About the lesson

1. My education portfolio: --> University of Nottingham (2016): BSc (Hons) Economics: 2.1 --> A Levels (360 UCAS points): A*AB (Maths 97%, Economics 88%, Physics) --> GCSEs: 6A*s, 4As 2. Teachings: --> I am looking to tutor Maths to students (GCSE level and below) online on weekends or in the weekday evenings. This can take place over Zoom/Skype/Google meet! --> I am also able to teach A Level Economics as well as certain modules for Degree Level. --> EXTRAS: I can prepare students for university with CV help/interview preparation for internships when they reach university. I left university in 2016 so I am up to date with the current work climate...to get a job after university, there is a large emphasis on internships. 3. Lesson Plan --> In our consultation (1st lesson), I'd like to know a bit about you. I want to get a feel of your strengths and weaknesses and after gathering this data, I will produce a lesson plan which I will send you. You can then take a look at this to determine whether you want to proceed with further lessons. This lesson plan will be tailored around you so you can fulfil your potential. Example: We can cover examples if you already know the theory. Or we can start from scratch if theory is what you require --> Every 3rd lesson, I will hold a recap session. This is so you are able to keep on top of what we covered previously. This may also include random tests so make sure you always keep up to date with what we cover! --> Lessons can be interactive...I have a whiteboard, monitor, webcam and a microphone. We can use whichever tools you want that make you feel comfortable! 4. Lastly, what would you want to tell students? --> Everyone can understand a concept however the way it is taught determines how effective the concept is understood. Many teachers lack the ability to relate and understand their students. Every student is different - so by teaching in a classroom, teachers are unable to teach every student individually and tailor learning to an individual's need.

Simran tutored both my daughters (Year 13 and Year 11). As a neighbour, I have always been up to date with Simran’s endeavours throughout school and university. As soon as I heard he was tutoring, I went over and asked if he could tutor my kids as they were struggling in subjects which he specialises in. The kids loved the sessions and he improved their confidence tenfold in the subject…hopefully now it shows in the mock exam results next month!
