About Alejandro

My name is Alejandro and I have been producing, sound designing and composing music on DAWs for around 7-8 years now. I am mostly self-taught but I have also attended university for Electronic Music Production at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute. I primarily produce Hypnotic/Deep Techno and Ambient music but I'm extremely flexible and have also had plenty of experience producing Rock, Dance Pop, Hip Hop/ Rap, UK Dubstep, Drum and Bass and even Metal on numerous occasions.

I encourage a top down approach to all my students; synthesising sounds from scratch using wavetable synthesis, modular synthesis and creative sampling. I am able to tailor my approach to whatever genre of electronic music feels native or inspiring to you but my greatest fluency is in teaching Techno. This genre requires a very surgical approach to sound design in my opinion, while utilising more modern and creative forms of sound synthesis such as granular synthesis, spectral morphology/morphological re-synthesis, parallel processing principles and an intermediate understanding of rhythmic theory - namely in composing great polyrhythms or polymeters. For beginners I will also briefly cover some additional music theory related to harmony in order to best explain and cement some of the production concepts we cover.

I would like to preface this with the fact I have limited experience as a professional tutor, however, I have taught many friends informally over the years and have really cemented my knowledge and teaching workflow of the subject ever since. I prefer to teach students with a more hands-on approach and will encourage us to mix and produce tracks or music you are passionate about as we go along! For beginners, I would usually start by giving you a stimulating introduction to production basics and fundamental concepts and will give you a mix of funny anecdotal and practical examples to illustrate how to or how not to approach producing music in various contexts (e.g. how to synthesise a strong bass from scratch, how to utilise compression, clippers, limiters, bus processing, EQ, distortion, FX, parallel processing, reverb, multiband compression, proper production workflow etc)... For more advanced students, I seek to expand on most of these concepts and also cover more creative approaches that can sometimes contradict more basic concepts and require a fundamental understanding of first in order to engage in more experimental techniques. The typical length of a lesson would be 1-2 hours and I would also like to mention that I'm neurodivergent and am especially good at teaching ADHD and Autistic students who, speaking from experience, often require a different and more detail-oriented syntax when learning which I tailor to very well. I also recognise that not all tutors and students are fully compatible or work productively together and as such I offer my first lesson completely free of charge and encourage students to make sure they are completely satisfied before continuing with my lessons!
