About Alvaro

I’m Álvaro. I am a qualified teacher and native Spanish speaker with over twenty years of experience teaching in primary and secondary schools, as well as online. I live in Falmouth and have been teaching Spanish for several years to students of different ages and levels, from beginners to GCSE and A-Level. I am empathetic, friendly and direct, but always warm and respectful. I like to create a relaxed and trusting atmosphere where students feel comfortable to speak, make mistakes and learn without pressure. For me, teaching is an exchange – giving, receiving and guiding each student on their own learning path. As both an artist and a teacher, I believe in visual, practical and creative learning. My lessons focus on real communication, authentic materials and visual resources that help make the language meaningful. I adapt to each student, whether they want to work on conversation, grammar, culture, writing or exam preparation, always connecting the lesson to their interests and abilities. I am patient, organised and I like my lessons to be clear, dynamic and personalised. My goal is for students to gain confidence, enjoy the learning process and discover that Spanish can be a way to connect with other people and cultures.

About the lesson

I am a native Spanish speaker and a qualified teacher with many years of experience teaching Spanish in secondary schools and online. I teach students of all levels, from beginners and primary school to GCSE, A-Level and adult learners. My lessons are personalised and adapted to the needs of each student. I like to start from what the learner already knows or enjoys and gradually introduce new vocabulary and grammar in a natural way. I use visual resources, conversation, games, and real-life situations to make Spanish practical, enjoyable and easy to remember. A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although I can offer shorter sessions for younger learners or longer ones for exam preparation. I help with speaking, listening, writing, grammar, pronunciation and exam techniques. I encourage my students to participate without fear of making mistakes, that’s how real learning happens. My aim is to build confidence, fluency and a real connection with the language and culture. Lessons are available for children, teenagers and adults, from complete beginners to A-Level or equivalent.

Joel has a very strong understanding of reading tasks and matches his answers well. He is also quick at understanding listening exercises, and he followed me well when I spoke in Spanish.
I think we should continue working a bit more on grammar, especially tenses, as well as expanding his vocabulary.
