About Shu Jane
Hi, I’m Jane! I’m a UCL Biochemistry graduate currently completing my MSc in Food Science at the University of Leeds. I achieved A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at A-Level, and have been tutoring Biology and secondary-level Science online since December 2025.
I’ve always enjoyed science, but I also know that enjoying a subject and finding it easy are definitely not the same thing! Having gone through GCSEs, A-Levels and university myself, I understand how frustrating it can be when something just doesn’t click, especially when a class has already moved on.
As a tutor, I’m friendly, patient and approachable. I want students to feel comfortable telling me when they’re confused, asking as many questions as they need, and getting things wrong without feeling embarrassed. For me, tutoring isn’t about being another school teacher, it’s about being someone in your corner who can help you understand the subject, build confidence and hopefully make it feel a little less daunting.
Outside of tutoring, my background in Biochemistry and Food Science means I’ve spent a lot of time studying Biology and Chemistry beyond the classroom, so I also love being able to show students where some of the things they learn at school actually lead in real life.

Having been a student myself not too long ago, I know how much difference it can make when you have someone you feel comfortable saying, “I genuinely don’t get this” to.
I try to create a relaxed and supportive space where students can ask questions, make mistakes and work through difficult topics without feeling judged. If something doesn’t make sense, I’ll explain it in a different way using diagrams, examples or simpler steps until it clicks.
My lessons are tailored to each student. Depending on what you need, we can revisit topics from school, work through practice and past-paper questions, focus on exam technique, or simply spend more time on areas you’re less confident in. I like lessons to be interactive, so I’ll ask questions throughout and encourage you to talk me through your thinking rather than just listen to me explain.
I have been tutoring Biology and secondary-level Science online since December 2025. I graduated from UCL with a BSc in Biochemistry and am currently completing an MSc in Food Science at the University of Leeds.
Lessons are typically one hour and are available for (I)GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Maths, as well as A-Level Biology.
