About Zachary

Hello! I'm Zachary, a 16-year-old who is willing to take on young primary school students to develop their skills as young musicians! As a younger teacher, I am a relaxed, chill person, however, I am quite firm in guiding you to your goals, may that be an upcoming performance, an exam or even just having fun picking up a hobby! I personally have a strong passion for music and believe it is a wonderful gift for everybody that anyone can learn. I am currently in year 11 and studying at Perth Modern School and have completed the year 10 Music Extension course there. I have participated in the multiple choirs offered in the school, and even had the opportunity to play in the Symphony Orchestra as a first violinist. At my old school, Scotch College, I was awarded a Music Fellowship, which enabled me great opportunities such as playing in Chamber String ensembles and piano opportunities like playing the processional music, and the school song. I have also had the opportunity to serve in the worship team as a keyboardist in church which has been an enriching experience. I have completed my Certificate of Performance exam at the start of 2025 with an Honors, however, have stopped lessons to pursue other aspects of music other than AMEB exams. I have passed my Grade 5 Violin exam the year before. As well as this I have taught myself how to play the guitar and drums to a casual level.

About the lesson

I have been playing piano for 10 years, and I aim to guide younger musicians, around primary school. Lessons will focus on building technical mastery with the piano and developing strong musical foundations. Each lesson will involve warm-ups and technical exercises (including scales and finger exercises), working on repertoire (majority of the lesson) and every second week will have a music theory session (musical notation, rhythm, dynamics etc). In preparation for exams I am also willing to incorporate aural and sight-reading work.

As the student progresses I aim to help them prepare for AMEB exams which will help develop their skills to a further level. Though my teaching will mainly be on western art music, other genres such as contemporary or jazz may be explored as well.

As a younger musician, I can connect with younger students easier as I understand what its like to start learning an instrument - it's not always easy! I aim to make lessons fun and engaging with activities like rhythm games, rewards and even teaching students how to play their favourite songs. I aim to provide a comfortable, relaxing environment where younger musicians can thrive.

Lessons are 30 minutes however longer times are negotiable.
