Pre-School Kids

At this age, piano lessons focus on introducing musical concepts through fun, engaging activities. We explore the piano keys, basic rhythms, and finger exercises to develop dexterity. The goal is to build familiarity with the instrument in a playful, encouraging environment.

What we work on: recognising patterns on the keyboard, finger number awareness, clapping simple rhythms, and playing short, easy tunes to build early confidence.

Lesson style: Highly interactive and short in duration, using musical games, singing, and colourful visuals to maintain focus and foster enjoyment.

Young Children

For young children, lessons introduce note reading, hand coordination, and simple pieces that allow them to experience the joy of playing music from the start. I work on improving their finger strength, rhythm, and understanding of music through both hands.

What we work on: learning to read music, playing scales, and performing beginner-level pieces with both hands. I also touch on basic music theory and ear training to support their playing.

Lesson style: Structured but enjoyable. Lessons incorporate fun songs and well-known melodies that kids can relate to, keeping them engaged while gradually introducing more challenging material.

Older Children

Older children start diving into more complex pieces and further developing their technique, sight-reading skills, and musical interpretation. Those working toward exams or performances will focus on achieving a higher level of fluency and artistic expression.

What we work on: mastering scales and arpeggios, sight-reading more complex music, and learning to interpret classical and contemporary pieces. We also work on music theory related to their repertoire.

Lesson style: A balance of technical drills and expressive playing. Lessons are designed to challenge students while allowing them to explore music they enjoy, helping them develop both their technical skills and musicality.

Adults

Lessons for adults are designed to be performance-oriented. Adults can expect to play recognisable pieces early on, with a focus on learning music that excites them. We'll work on foundational skills like reading music and playing chords, so you can start enjoying the piano without spending too much time on technical drills.

What we work on: quickly learning pieces you love, building hand coordination, and understanding basic music theory concepts like chord progressions and scales. You'll develop the ability to play chords and accompany melodies, which opens up a wide range of music, from classical to contemporary.

Lesson style: Lessons prioritise playing enjoyable music while learning practical techniques such as playing chords and improving hand independence. We'll tailor lessons to your goals—whether you want to learn to play songs, improve your reading skills, or understand how to accompany yourself or others. The focus is on getting you to play music you enjoy as quickly as possible, while building a solid technical foundation.
