About Tutor

EXPERIENCE
• Certified Franco-ontarienne French classroom teacher with over 12+ years.
• Experience in both provincial testing grade levels, grade 3 and 6 as well as administration. I also have some knowledge and experience in the TPCL (grade 10 provincial testing).
• Experience with upper elementary students (grades 3 – 6), middle school (7-8) as well as high school (9 -12)
• Students and parents have complimented me for helping to 'dumb down' math by presenting fun, comprehensive, and easy-to-understand math strategies from grades 3-5
• Specializing mainly in French reading strategies/skills grade levels 3 to 6 and focusing on communicating verbally in French during each session to help strengthen oral communication skills
• Offering 15 -30 minutes language enrichment classes for preschool or JK/SK students entering French or French immersion schools. These sessions would focus on language acquisition, oral communication, and building vocabulary which is crucial to reading readiness. Sight words students would hear frequently in the school setting would be covered as well as working on language acquisition and vocabulary using books, nursery rhymes (comptines), songs, salutations, numbers, colors, and the alphabet.
• Willing to help adults improve their French skills. Would love to gain some experience with TEF. If you're looking to get your permanent residency applications and wish to take the Test d’Évaluation de Français pour le Canada (TEF Canada) which assesses the level of proficiency in French of francophones and non-francophones alike, please contact me.

EXPERIENCED QUALIFIED TEACHER OFFERING VIRTUAL FRENCH TUTORING

MY STORY:
All kids learn differently and sometimes they ‘fall between the cracks’ through traditional teaching methods. As an experienced teacher, I have seen this happen time and time again, year after year. It is a topic of discussion that comes up rather frequently at parent-teacher conferences.

Individualized, one-on-one, instruction saved me. Let me help do the same for your child. When I was a kid I struggled with reading and I was offered help through the school’s reading program. It was well-intentioned, but I felt ostracized and singled out every time I was pulled out of the classroom. I begged my parents to pull me from the reading program. They did, with a headed message from the school that if I did not receive help my French reading skills would suffer immensely. Luckily, I received one-on-one help. This, coupled with ongoing continuous daily practice and voluminous reading, has helped to improve my reading skills over time.

I also struggled immensely in math. Once again, I was blessed to receive help on several occasions, and it was this help that ultimately helped me succeed in my math classes. Maybe there’s truth in: ‘Those who can’t do, teach’. As a result of my struggles in my math classes, I am a better elementary school math teacher. I can find strategies and simplify what some kids feel is too complicated.

WHAT I DO:
One-on-one, I love one-on-one teaching and get immense joy from seeing kids' faces light up when what they are learning and trying at finally ‘clicks. Over the years I have truly enjoyed individual conferences and I get immense satisfaction seeing the ‘Ah-ha!’ moment that happens during these conferences. I care deeply for my students' successes and I love seeing their level of confidence grow.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Virtual sessions through Zoom allow me to mouse share with students in order to provide a fully collaborative and engaging experience. Interactive flip page French books, online games (like whack-a-mole, maze running, etc.) for French sound revision helps with reading pronunciation and comprehension skills, are just some examples of the online tools that are used during sessions.
**Free consultation**During the free consultation, specific goals for the sessions will be set. These set goals allow me to provide each student with a tailored fit to help suit their individual learning needs.

Jotting down notes and observations during and following each session, help guide my next learning activity/activities and determine the next steps to take with each student. Through notetaking and observations, I am better equipped to provide accurate, regular, and ongoing feedback. As well, as recommend additional learning activities, resources, if required.
