About Carmen

Hello and thank you for viewing my page!

My name is Carmen and I am currently a second-year undergraduate at the University of Melbourne who is pursuing Psychology.

I am a student tutor and am currently in my second year at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Psychology with a strong background in Mathematics (A* in IGCSE Mathematics, A* in IGCSE Additional Mathematics, A* and Top in Cohort for GCE A-Level Mathematics) and English (A* in IGCSE English Literature, A* in IGCSE English Language). I am also trained in the ABRSM syllabus of Piano with qualifications in Performance and Theory, reaching up to Grade 8 and 5.

I have always been passionate in the field of Education and making a change in the lives of others, especially youths. Hence, I kickstarted my tutoring journey in 2018, starting off with tutoring my peers in IGCSE Mathematics and Additional Mathematics.

However, I later branched off to teaching primary-level children English, Mathematics, and Piano (including the basics and up to Grade 5) which I greatly enjoyed.

My hobbies include competitive swimming, volunteering, socialising, reading, playing the piano, and learning foreign languages. I am fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, and have limited working proficiency in Japanese and French.

About the lesson

Whether you are a complete beginner or have had some experience wading in the pool, my ultimate goal as a swimming coach remains the same: To develop high-quality personalised lesson plans based on your personal goals and deliver them in an engaging, challenging, and fun way to YOU.

Thus, as a potential student, you can expect to:
1) Develop a fundamental appreciation of the water and the different swimming strokes.
2) Learn and utilise proper swimming technique and be exposed to various swimming workouts and challenges (e.g. endurance/speed training).
3) Be challenged. I am a firm believer in pushing my students to venture outside of their comfort zone, and to not only develop their strengths, but to also work on their weaknesses.
4) Receive my utmost support and guidance regarding your personal journey of working towards your swimming-related goals.
5) Have fun in a comfortable, engaging, and safe space!

I currently offer a minimum of 1-hour classes. Lessons should be held at the student's home or at a public swimming pool.

Carmen helped teach my 6 year old son for a year, and she helped him go from Grade 1 to 3 within that time., very impressive. Besides that, Carmen was very pleasant and accommodating.

Please note that the free first class option is a default setting that has been set by Superprof, which I do not follow.

I charge 50 dollars an hour for lessons held at the student's home. However, please note that for lessons held at public pools, I normally charge an additional 10 dollars for walk-in/pool entry/transport fees.

My classes are normally held at the Fitzroy Swimming Pool, but I am open to discussing other options if it is not suitable for you.

I greatly appreciate students to pay at the start of the month, cash or bank-in are both accepted. Thank you!
