About Austin
After performing and excelling in other creative avenues in junior high and high school (6 time state champion of Speech and Drama competitions in Oklahoma, 2 time Big Idea essay contest winner, and 3 self-written plays produced on the high school stage) I knew theatre and the arts was a strong passion. Off of the stage I was often a top performing student in my classes and would commonly be found helping my classmates before school or on the weekends helping them with their homework and concepts, it dawned on my one day when a close friend said "Austin, you are teaching this better to me than the teacher" that I never had considered a career in education. From there I went on to receive a B.F.A. Ed in Theatre and Communication Education from the University of Oklahoma, and after teaching for 3 years I went on to obtain my M. Ed in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have worked in Educational Theatre and Performing Arts for 10 years now with over 20 years of performance experience myself. I also have been a certified Texas and Oklahoma classroom teacher for the past 6 years now. Within the classroom, I have received recognition for my quality of teaching and often find myself tutoring other students for various subjects and lessons.

When we first get started, I'd like to do a benchmark assessment to understand the current level of the skill and content on which we are tutoring. This can be done in a multitude of ways, but primarily I'd like to do a brief interview followed by a brief example of the content material. Then I want to know what your goal is. From there, we'll build a plan of improvement together!
I have worked with just about any student you can think of. Children from the ages of 4-18 (I've directly taught grades 6-12 in public schools), learners with learning differences of special physical and cognitive needs, and learners who speak English as a second language. I have experience also directing, coaching, and tutoring adults for a variety of subjects and lessons depending on their needs and skillsets.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You should think about these questions before you talk to a teacher.
1. What is it that I need that teacher to help me with?
2. How long am I needing the teacher, or what is my main goal from having this teacher if the time is indefinite?
3. What times will I be available and need a teacher to help me?

Mr. Oliver was great and could blend a fun and welcoming experience and a serious “get it done” output. He helped me understand what I kept getting stuck on and some tricks to get past it.
Austin was good with my son for coaching him up for his acting. He isn't a singing vocal coach as well, but his price was reasonable and was great at helping coach out the emotions and give some suggestions on what to look up independently for vocal coaching for singing.
Mr. Oliver was great at helping me build up my audition portfolio for college admissions and continuing through my program. He couldn’t help me with singing vocal techniques, but he did really help with connecting to songs emotionally.
He did a great job with my kid. She really improved on her audition piece from day 1. We had 3 sessions before her audition and she didn’t get the specific part we wanted, but a good part still. I wanted to see what he had to say about her role and audition after the fact and I’m glad we took the time to do so. He was great, and maybe I’ll have him help my daughter again in the future.
Austin really took the time to meet me where I was at and listened to my areas of interest. From there is took a few sessions for me to really grasp that I was making some good improvement when he had me watch a comparison video of myself from the first session. He focused on not teaching me brand new things, but me realizing what I already had and how to recognize it for a better quality of performance.
