About Grant Emerson
I am a student of 'The Method', a great tool that I learned and honed in graduate school at the worldfamous 'Actors Studio Drama School' in New York City...but Method Acting isn't for everyone, so I use the tools that I have gathered from the many different coaches, professors, actors, and creatives that I have had the privilege to work with in my life.
It is my belief that no one doctrine of acting will work for everyone...So, I get to know my students and we tailor their coaching to who they are, and what works for them.
I love seeing peoples minds and bodies work through the process of creating/becoming a character. I love to see the results of the hardwork that is put in to live effortlessly and turly in imaginary circumstances.
I started teaching during my time in grad school, and I love to see the journey of the actor. When all that is learned gives birth to that "moment" on stage or film...it's the most rewarding feeling.
B.A. in Theatre, Morgan State University

When working with students, I like to get to know them first, so I always ask that they bring in a monologue that they indetitfy with as who they truly are in their lives today; or who they feel they are.
After getting to know them through this initial monologue, I like to move on to script analysis and really break the monologue apart and see how it evolves and changes over the course of a few sessions.
After script analysis, I like to move on to scene work, cold reads, and audition material tailored to who they are as an actor.
This is my process for new students, getting to know them as a person and as an Actor...from there we can move on to a variety of lessons tailored just for them
I just spent a year working for AMDA College & Conservatory as their Production, Education, and Artists' Lab Coordinator. In the Artists' Lab we incubated student original projects, and seeing those student's bring their ideas to life and put up full productions -- absolutely amazing experience.

Grant is phenomenal!! He is personable, patient and so very knowledgeable! My acting lesson left me wanting more and excited for our next appointment together. I already feel that my skills are moving in the right direction after receiving his guidance and feedback ~ Thanks Grant!
Grant and I attended The Actors Studio Drama School together and I had the opportunity to witness him begin to blossom into the artist that he is today. A particular instance crosses my mind. Our MFA program was three years and during the last year, each student was to pair with others to perform their thesis. Grant was an invited actor for my thesis, 'The Seventeenth of June,' and accompanied myself and my two thesis partners in developing our characters under the guidance of our Director. I'd like to give context and say that this was not Grant's thesis so he was not being graded on performance but he never waivered from bringing his best in rehearsals and, of course, the performance. During this time, we encountered shocking setbacks that had my scene partners and I taken aback - it was our thesis, our moment to shine, and yet we felt more like stars burning out, fires losing their flame. Grant showed up everyday, ready to challenge and encourage us out of the muck. He proved, via his actions, that despite our perceived challenges, we should always focus on the work. Always stay present with one another, and remember that though this time is monumental, there will be many more ahead. At one point, many of us felt frustrated at the process and overlooked -- but Grant saw us. He understood that though he had several other thesis plays to participate in, at that time, we needed him most. You see, Grant did not have to invest his heart into our needs but he continued to go above and beyond to get off book, discover his character's voice -- he truly did vocal work, we rehearsed outside of our scheduled time slots and we ultimately shined on stage. However, it wasn't a light that was for the audience to see, it was shared between one another -- for one another. This is one of the many ways that Grant has proven he is kind, prepared, passionate, hardworking -- and he knows how to graciously be his best self while encouraging that others do the same. Simply put, he is a humble leader and I am confident that he will coach students to do the same because, you see, one must lead by example. Grant Emerson Harvey certainly does just that.
Grant was great to work with.
He is such a giving and open scene partner. He listens and I mean truly listens while in the scene and he is always prepared and ready to play. He’s one of the kindest people and one of my favorite scene partners ever
