About Tommy

With nearly 20 years of experience on stage and screen, as well as a Bachelors in Theatre, I feel confident in my abilities as an acting coach and helping you reach your goals as an actor. Each lesson will be recorded to provide you with instant feedback as well as allowing you to see your growth from the start through until you feel you do not need my services any longer.

I've always enjoyed teaching and helping others, especially when a student becomes successful thanks to what they have learned from me.

I have been an educator in the public school system for 12 years.

I received my Bachelors in Theatre from Oklahoma Christian University in December 2001. During my time at OC, I had the opportunity to appear in several stage productions, culminating in a Best Actor award during the '99-'00 school year. After graduating and returning home to Houston, I appeared in community theatre productions, main stage productions, and small budget films and independent films in the Houston area.

About the lesson

My typical process when working with a new student is a basic introduction so I can get to know them. I would then begin by "testing" the student's knowledge by having them do a cold read from a script. This allows me to gauge the student's ability and allows me to determine where to go with the student from there.

I have worked with intermediate age to high school age students, and directed adults in community theatre productions.

The best advice I could give a student is be open-minded. Acting is about discovery - discovery of yourself as well as the character you are portraying. If you approach a character with a single-minded focus and are unwilling to accept suggestions, direction, criticisms, etc - than you can not grow as an actor. Always have an open mind and ultimately be honest with yourself.

I am very proud in having almost completed my own short film in which I served as writer, director, co-producer, and actor.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should really consider what they want to accomplish - what is the end goal? If this is just a side hobby that you want to experiment with, that's perfectly fine. However, some teachers may be turned off by that fact and not give you 100%. If you are ready to make a full commitment and can accept constructive criticism, that's even better!
