About Andrew

Through bassoon lessons, I have a couple important rules. The most important rule is to always try your best, both in and out of lessons. You may not succeed right away, but you will go farther than you ever thought if you continually try your best. I require this of my students and I believe that it shows in their playing and also in their enjoyment when playing the bassoon.

I also believe that this helps promote the quality of one’s character and can hopefully transcend into other aspects of my student’s life or future.

I have fun teaching my students, plain and simple. It is the highlight of my week without question.

I love lessons the most when the student has been working hard and achieved a personal best. May this personal best be something they didn’t think they could do before or something I never expected from them. Either way, it is one of the most wonderful things to witness. It also promotes their growth, raises their confidence, and makes bassoon more fun for them too.

Aside from my many years of music school and musical/teaching outlets, I am also a 4th Degree Master in Martial Arts. I was required to frequently teach as a part of my training leading to my masters rank. The biggest thing I learned is that teaching is more than just an activity or a skill, teaching is also a language. When teaching in martial arts, my master would observe the way I was teaching, the words I would use, and the results I would get with students. It has majorly shaped the way I teach bassoon for the better.

About the lesson

I need to learn how the student learns first and foremost. It helps me connect with them better and get more things done.

I also need to figure out what resonates with them and how they think. May it be visual examples, listening examples, or trial and error experiments.

Mostly high school students and some middle school. I have experience teaching students with learning differences, special needs, ADD/ADHD, Autism, etc.

Figure out which teacher is best for you. The right fit is the right fit. Take a trial lesson and see for yourself. You’ll know. The chemistry between teacher and student is very important.

Details

I charge $50 per hour lesson. Payments can be made by cash or check only.

I make my own reeds and sell them for $15 each. If I sell them to someone who isn’t my student, then I charge $20 per reed.
