About Enrique

Wildlife and environment are my life since young. My passion begins with my scout's years, where my masters taught me about the life, environment, unpolluted habitat, how to help to preserve wildlife and enjoy them during scout's campings.

These years as scout gave me stimulus and the love to work for the nature, the wildlife, the ecology and keep me active in this way after 37 years of career, where any job that I had wasn't a job, it was a great pleasure to enjoy any moment helping the ecosystems to stand alive and resilient, and helping the communities and stakeholders to understand to work in any of their businesses sustainably for the ecosystems and environments.

I transmit this passion to my students in each work, lecture, conference, project, or any other activity where they are involved in my ecology and system analysis and simulation classes. In each of these activities, as much as possible, I usually include an example of my research and life experiences with wildlife and the environment.

I get started teaching during my studies of PhD, in 1985. I was teaching assistant of the Department of Environmental Studies, Simon Bolivar University (Venezuela), where I taught the undergraduatee course Men and their environment.

I am PhD in Biological Sciences. Major in Systems and Population Ecology.

I am also Bachelor in Biology. Major in Ecology

About the lesson

My philosophy in the teaching process has been to give due importance to the valuable human resource that we have in the students. For this reason, the objectives and activities we cover in class are centered on the student’s needs, within their professional profile, and as human beings.

In my classes I emphasize at least five fundamental factors:

1. The transmission of theoretical knowledge of biology, and or ecology without which students could not understand all the phenomena that occur around them and that has to do with biological processes

2. The transmission of knowledge through an active teacher-student participation, especially where biological processes are applied to daily life and activities that have to do with the professional development of individuals and also in the transmission of theoretical knowledge

3. In relation to the teacher-student interaction, the classes are not limited to the transmission of knowledge in the classrooms but also in making use of the most modern technological resources at hand. In my classes the students (under the tutorship of the teacher) develop an active search in reliable internet sources for teaching processes.

4. As much as possible the students are in contact with material from recent publications or at least summaries of these, on the internet, and in the libraries of the teaching center.

5. Taking into account the resources of the institution, as well as the objectives of the Biology program, my classes seek to replicate the most important and recent biological experiments and show possible applications of the knowledge acquired in the solution of problems of importance to our society and environment.

Finally, I believe that love and passion for our profession are good contributions that daily we can give to our students in our teachings.

Birthday of my cousin Ariel.

He celebrates his 65 years. This party started with a meeting in the living room, where all adults were drinking beer or wine, while we were talking about Venezuelan traditions and foods. Children were playing in the backyard.

Because this party began very early (3 PM), we had lunch. The hosts prepared a special Venezuelan meat and ham pastiche as the main plate with salad and bread.

During the party, a group of adults was playing the Venezuelan game of "Bolas Criollas". In this game, two teams of two players each need to throw four big hard balls very close to a small white ball (Mingo). The team that throws at least one ball closer to the Mingo wins.

After the game, all the family and friends got together in the living where the hosts had prepared the cake and desserts on the dinner table. We sing the Venezuelan birthday's song and the birthday man blew the candles at the end.

The party continued after the cake, some of the adults played "bolas criollas" again until the sunset.

The party finished the late night, with the sound of Venezuelan plane music, beers, and wine.
