I am James! I graduated Cuma sum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, and a minor in Biotechnology, a Master’s in Biotechnology and a Ph.D in Agronomy (Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology). In college, I realized the classes I loved most are simply because of the instructors and professors who made those classes interesting and enjoyable and not based on the subject topics. These instructors and professors were always comprehensible when teaching the lecture material, and always willing to go out of their comfort zones to help their students, especially when I ask for some clarification and additional information. Through out my tutoring career, I try to use this knowledge and skills in my tutoring approach to make sure the students get the best experience and understand the subject matter. I introduce the topic in a pleasant way to get the students interested and give the students ample of time to practice the material on their own for 100% retention of the information. However, this method can be adjusted based on the topic, subject and student’s individual needs.
I have 10 years tutoring experience in undergraduate Introductory Biology classroom, microbiology, Genetics, Ecology and Botany. I worked directly with any students who needed additional assistance. I also work with students in smaller groups of 5 in class. Additionally, I held tutoring office hours every day where students could come for any homework help and advice. I also tutor Algebra and English during my tutoring hours in addition to all biology related subjects.
Since there is room for improvement and wanting to make sure the students gets the best experience and retention, any resources or suggestions from parents and students are highly welcome.
