About Devani
Hello! My name is Devani Jolman, and I hope I can help you with your tutoring needs. Education is the key to change and development, and I hope to be a part of that journey for you or your child.
I graduated from Calvin College in December 2015 with a B.S. in Biology, finishing with a 3.9 GPA. I am starting graduate school in the fall, pursuing a Ph.D. in Ecological Sciences.
Since graduating, I have been a Naturalist Educator for County and State Parks (Ottawa County in MI and Vermont State Parks), creating and teaching programs for people of all backgrounds and abilities (ages 1-99). I have 3 years of outdoor education experience.
I am a published author with a peer-revied scientific paper. Link - (concealed information) . I am nominated for best student co-authored paper.
I am a certified teacher with Project Learning Tree, and I am a certified Interpreter through the National Association for Interpretation.

1. Establish a connection with the student. Having a student feel comfortable is the key to efficient and beneficial tutoring.
2. Go through their schoolwork. How they organize, take notes, study, test prep is almost as essential as the material.
3. Ask them about initial questions - what has been troubling them most? Do they have any upcoming tests, quizzes, etc. that need addressing?
4. Have them re-iterate their material to me. Coming up with information in their own way is important in memory.
5. Go over any homework, schoolwork, etc.
