About Rachel

My passion for tutoring began my sophomore year of college when I started being a peer mentor tutor. After learning and growing as a student myself, I wanted to pass those skills and abilities on to other students so that they could also succeed.

I will help students acheive their goals by pinpointing what they find challenging, help them understand concepts and skills the are struggling with, and then create a plan with them to improve their skills and studying that is manageable for them.

I have been tutoring just over 3 years now and I have gained invaluable experience. In college, I worked mainly as a private tutor for first and second year college students. After graduating last year, I have been privately tutoring high school students in their courses and time management skills. Due to this experience, I can help high school and college students with subjects ranging from the hard sciences to the humanities. I can also help with developing organizational and time management skills.

I myself have struggled and failed in classes before but I learned from those experiences and became a better student. Since I know what it is like to struggle in classes, I am able to approach students with an empathy and understanding that not all tutors are able to provide. I love seeing students succeed and gain skills I myself did not have when I was in their position.

I was both a tutor and teacher's assistant in college so I have extensive experience in teaching and helping others.

About the lesson

During the first meeting with a student I typically ask them what they are struggling with and what they would like to work on. Based on this, I usually review material with them, introduce new and more effective study habits, and how to plan out their work schedule for the week. After establishing an effective way to review and study, the next tutoring sessions will check in on their progress and work on any hard topics they would like to review with me.

College and high school students.

It may take a few tries to find a tutor that is right for you. After the first session you can get a feel if a tutor's teaching style is compatible with how you learn. Don't be afraid speak up for your needs and what works for you!

One of my high school students was struggling with her freshman year biology class. After teaching effective study habits and coming up with a study schedule her grade improved from an F to a B in just 2 months! She was always a bright student - she just needed some skills to help her succeed!
