About Meredith
Meredith Keen began studying cello at the Hartt School of Music at four years of age with Carmen Irons. She has enjoyed numerous performance opportunities in a variety of venues, including the pre-concert program for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra for its season opening performance with Yo-Yo Ma in 2007. She also performed at the University of Hartford Fundraising Gala in 2009. In 2011 and 2012 Meredith performed the Schumann Cello Concerto with the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Sol Solis Consort of Avon. She has competed at the Bob Jones University Fall Festival Fine Arts Competition, in Greenville, South Carolina placing 2nd, 3rd and 1st in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively, in the national strings solo division. In 2011 Meredith placed 2nd in the Alexander & Buono International String Competition. In 2011 she won the Connecticut Youth Symphony’s Concerto Competition performing as soloist with CYS in 2012. In 2013 Meredith was a finalist in the Bob Jones University Commencement Competition.
She has performed in the String Honors Recital of The Hartt School of Music in the years 2005 through 2009 and 2011. Meredith was awarded the first John Jorgensen Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Young Cellist in 2005. She served as Principal Cellist for the Connecticut Youth Symphony for three years, and received the CYS Leadership Award in 2010. Meredith served as the cellist for the Hartt School of Music’s Chamber Quintet under the direction of Stephen Larson. In 2012 the quintet was named Hartt School of Music’s Chamber Honors Quintet. Meredith currently serves in the University String Orchestra at Bob Jones University and the de Novo String Quartet under the direction of Diane Pinner. Meredith studied cello with Terry King of the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, Massachusetts from 2010-2012; and currently studies with Dr. Yuriy Leonovich of Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina.
Meredith was also a member of the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra in 2010-2011 and was a member of the de Novo String Quintet under the direction of Stephen Larson. In 2012 de Novo was named Hartt School of Music’s Chamber Honors Quintet. In 2012-14, as a college freshman, Meredith served as Assistant Principal Cellist with the Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra. She serves as the Cellist in the University String Quartet and also performs as the solo cellist for the University’s annual Living Gallery production. Meredith served as the Associate Director of the University Cello Choir in 2012-2013. Meredith currently studies cello with Terry King of the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Dr. Yuriy Leonovich of Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina.
Meredith starting pursuing her Suzuki Certification in the summer of 2016. She is passionate about teaching her students not only to love and play the cello, but to love and have knowledge about music in general, in whole.
