About Amelia

Currently a musician with Bard College's The Orchestra Now, I have over 6 years of private lesson experience. I have a bachelors (DePauw University) and masters (McGill University) in music performance, have published a thesis on music pedagogy, and am currently undergoing Suzuki training. I have performed as a soloist with orchestras in Indiana, Illinois and North Carolina, and have performed in concert with Yo Yo Ma, Ben Folds, Blue Man Group, Third Coast Percussuon, ICE Ensemble and Time for Three. I can provide guidance for young musicians in both serious traditional classical approach, and alternative approaches. I work intimately with students and parents to establish their goals and make them a reality.

I have conducted research in music pedagogy, particularly in how to reach students for whom traditional methods of pedagogy prove difficult. That said, I also have formal Suzuki teacher training and draw on my own traditional education in my teaching.

About the lesson

Our first lesson includes a conversation about the student's and/or parent's goals for lessons. From there, I would share a preliminary suggestion for how I might help them reach this goal, based on their playing, as well as short-term and long-term goals discussed. We can assess compatibility and go forward from there!
