About Rob

At Acebass, we teach Bass and Bass ONLY!! We DO NOT play guitar. We teach a unique method of bass playing which uses less effort AND gives you better tone and attack while allowing you to lower the action on your instrument.

We've been teaching over 25 years. We have taught at The Collective and Long Island University in NYC, as well as several private Music Schools. We have Bachelor's Degree from CW Post University and Master's from Hofstra University in NY. We are alumnus of Jazzmobile and have studied with Jaco Pastorius, Percy Jones, Cecil Bridgewater, as well as Harvie Swartz (famous studio Cats).

We have worked with members of The Stray Cats, Spirogyra,Steely Dan, Uriah Heep, amongst others. We have worked with The Inkspots,Randy and the Rainbows, The Impalas, The Dubs, among others. We play absolutely ALL STYLES from Classical to Classic Rock, Funl,Rock a Billy, Rock,and Ethnic, for example.

All students receive our unique setup, adjusting your bass to work with our methods. We also help you maintain your instrument and do routine repairs.

Our goal is one thing - to get you into the band(s) you want to be in. We don't use any method books - Each student gets an individual learning program, according to his or her goals.

Whether you're a working bassist looking to sharpen your chops, a beginner first starting out, or an older person returning to music, we can help.

It's always a pleasure to see people sharpen their skills. More of pleasure watching them get into bands and start working. That's OUR goal.

About the lesson

Before we start, you fill out a questionaire that introduces you and indicates your goals and preferences.

Then, we setup the instrument. They never come properly setup off the shelf, and very few guitar techs know how to set up a bass.

Next, we start working on technique - You can't reach your potential unless you play properly.

Then, we apply the technique to scales and arpeggios - That's the cornerstone of playing bass.

Finally, we have you play one of your favorite songs utilizing what you've learned. Should you need help learning a particular song for your band, I'm always glad to help and show you how to figure it out.

Questions are always welcomed. After teaching for 30 years, I should know the answer, LOL!!!

His eclectic background as a bass musician is a great benefit for students who are interested in playing the bass in a variety of musical genre. Also, he provided great practice exercises, and great technical assistance to help the student become a better player.

An added bonus is that he was great to talk to. Ask him about an opinion about a particular musician/genre/or his experiences in New York and you get a fascinating look of a working musicians.

If you want to learn the electric bass or upright bass I suggest taking lessons from this man.
