About Sophie

Sophie Grillet ("Gree-YE") is a professional fine artist. She has taught young children, high school students, college students and adults. She currently teaches family workshops at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

Sophie's classes are fun but intensive. Students feel they have given their full attention and really achieved something.

Note - Studio is in the city of Ann Arbor, (near W Liberty & S Seventh) with free on-street parking.

Finding entertaining ways to explain what I'd like my students to be focusing on. Seeing the feeling of achievement in my students.

About the lesson

Discuss needs, preferences (e.g. group or individual) and experience of student. Are the classes for personal development, to improve skills (e.g. for college application) or for a mental break from the stresses of life? (All valid reasons.)

Find a time that works for both parties.

Who will travel? - your home or my Ann Arbor studio?

Young children, high school students, college students and adults.

Check you like their art, or at least find it interesting.

Be adventurous and open to new ways of thinking.

Realize that making art can be hard (but rewarding) work.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think what you want from the lessons. It could be relaxation with a couple of friends, reviving old skills, wanting to wake up your brain by doing something completely new, wanting to take your skill to the next level...Make sure your honest with yourself, and the teacher can help you.

Perfect! Sophie's style. She is very creative and teaches how "see" an object and a shadow, for example. Sophie is also patient, encouraging and instructs with a "mentoring style"... through suggestions and questions and ideas on how to have a more critical eye on how to look at an object and how one is drawing the object.
