About GK
I love teaching, and I love working with students of any age and watching them blossom. I primarily focus on acrylic painting, drawing, and linoleum printing classes. But I also teach youth entrepreneurship courses. I have had years of experience (since 2008) teaching in different school systems around the country, at Parks and Recreation Centers, non-profits, and hosting community art projects; all while working with various students, many with special needs and vision impairments.
I have more than a decade of experience working in the community arts field. My practice also includes traditional mediums like painting, printmaking, and mixed media works. I have numerous artworks in private collections around the country and have created large public projects in the City of San Francisco and Kansas City. I earned my MFA in social practice at California College of the Arts and my BFA in Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute.
I currently work as a Community Arts and County Engagement Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, helping promote and foster community and economic development through the arts.
But why are Art and Art lessons (yes, capital A) so important? In a broad sense, Art changes lives, improves test scores, helps people age, socialize, understand/educate, beautify, connect, and stimulates business. Art is also a business that drives tourism and creates culture. But on a personal level, I would not be here today without the Arts, and I know there are many others out there like me.
