About Kimberly
I have commited my life to creating beauty in my art, and have developed a unique approach to teaching students how to see what they wish to paint. I have a BFA in Painting, a BA in Art History, experience in the commercial art world (galleries, museums, and auction houses), post graduate work, studio assistantship, over a decade as a daily painter and nearly 20 years as a working artist. My work is collected world wide and has been honored with a myriad of awards (2015's Official Artist of the Kentucky Derby, American Kennel Club honors, used on wine labels, etc). I travel the US and teach muti-day workshops on color mixing and brushwork. Additionally, smaller and intimate classes are offered in my Lake Orion studio on a variety of topics. I would love to share my passion for creating with you!

I have always had an inclination to show-and-tell, specifically when it comes to sharing what I do in the studio each day. That naturally grew into a desire to help others connect with their own muses.
I have a BFA in Painting, a BA in Art History, and nearly 20 years of continuing education via post graduate work and studies with other creatives and coaches. I have done visiting artist stints with organizations and schools, many presentations about my process and marketing elements, and taught multi-day workshops across the country. I am articulate, intuitive, insightful, curious and delight in helping others nurture their creativity.

New students start with a short phone consult/visit so that I can assess their goals and current skill set. Recommendations are then made as to what classes/content will be best suited. Additionally, one-on-one sessions can be scheduled.
I have worked with artists aged 5-90.
Make sure that the teacher is articulate and is able to help you reach your goals. You want someone who will listen to what you want to learn and guide you in that direction. Someone who doesn't provide all the answers, but asks of you many questions, helping you to find your path. And someone who has the courage to tell you if they are not the right fit as an instructor - with the network to refer you to an artist who might be better suited.
I have an art journaling group that meets twice a month, once for an open session and the second time with a prepared lesson. These women have been with me, some for over 10 years, and have grown friendships and nurtured their own creative selves. They have surprised themselves with their abilities to draw portraits, paint objects, and create things of artistic value when the majority of them had no prior training in the arts. Furthermore, they are excited to experiment, try new things, and play with crayons. It fills my heart every time we are able to work together.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The ideal student knows what they want to learn - color, drawing, brushwork, how to see - they need to have particular goals in mind. Even if their goal is to be creative for a couple hours or to have fun, that's ok. But communicating with the instructor ahead of time will ensure that goals are met/worked towards, and the student isn't commiting to the wrong program.
