About Robyn

I teach drawing basic through the fine points of drawing the human figure and portraiture, with emphasis on giving your work weight, gesture, character and anatomic accuracy. Currently leading twice monthly sessions, 2nd and 3rd Sundays, at Lakewood Arts Gallery and volunteering my knowledge on 2nd and 4th Wed eves at Redline Contemporary Art Center. The magic, the moment you are both steeped in concentration and lost in the art. I can't fully put into words the feeling as an artist that moment when you are immersed in the work, in the art of what your hand and eye are doing.

I started with short lectures at the beginning of open figure drawing sessions. My friends wanted more information on anatomy and could not find simple answers to their questions.

I graduated in 1983 from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA. I have worked in advertising, movie poster and weekly ad design, and graphic design, logos and packaging for housewares and other products, but my true love is drawing the figure, portraits and caricatures.

About the lesson

I begin with a conversation to figure out a students needs and desires. The student is the driver of their own learning. I strive to find a key that will open a door of excitement and stimulus for learning about drawing the human form.

I have worked with all levels of drawing students from "how come you want me to hold a pencil that way" to "why can't I get the core shadow right on the glabellum". I hunt for the key to your enticement into the artistic world.

Students as well as teachers must express their needs and desires for their learning. There are no stupid questions. What the student does not understand should be clarified. Every student may has heard the same lessons more than once but the clarity comes at the right moment. Art and life are about repetition.

I enjoy drawing portrait live during exciting events: open performances, Furst Friday Art Walks, concerts, weddings, etc.

Details

I teach 2 hour group lessons at Lakewood Arts Gallery for a standard fee, $12 members and $15 for non-members. Private lessons and consultations run from $35 to $60 an hour, plus travel.
