For a minute I’d like to present a hypothetical for us to consider that is very real for a great many families and will become more of a need in the near future for various reasons;

Say you have a 10 year old that expresses interest in math. There are loads of options to explore that gift, that interest. Mathematics teams, chess, even giving them an intstrument and books on music theory. Say you have another supremely athletic child. Well that one is usually pretty easy to figure out, let’s try out some sports. What about the third child though, The one who is artisicly inclined? What clubs and courses can you sign them up for to enhance their interest and set them on a career path that will allow them to flourish?

The quick answer is there isn't as much available for hypothetical child three. With budgets being cut to arts and public schools in general I don’t see that changing anytime soon. That’s where I am to find my niche as a teaching artist. Does your son or daughter have an interest in illustration that you would like to support and nurture? Do you have a comic idea that you would love to make but have no idea how to start? Get in touch with me, I would love to share my knowledge with you.

In short, Mostly because I see it’s value and I see it’s affect on my students almost immediately. Success fuels confidence, giving kids the tools to succeed in their art journeys respectively, is something I’m very proud of and work very hard to achieve.

Working with kids on an individual bases offers its own challenges, but it also allows me to become sort of an art mentor. Which is something that would have been invaluable to me in my own adolescence.

I started teaching art at rec centers in St. Paul, and I have taught at 7 different schools since then.

About the lesson

Depends on their skill level and what they would like to learn which is the first thing I like to figure out. So the first session would be using a simple drawing exercise to see just that. Then I plan a detailed lesson plan around you or your child's needs. I have proven methods that will make anyone better at drawing, from beginners to elite level artists.

Mostly middle school age but some elementary and high school.
