About Christine

I am a mid-career artist who also loves to teach! I participate in gallery shows across Ohio, and my work is held in private and corporate collections including BF Goodrich Headquarters in Charlotte, Summa Health West Tower in Akron, Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Heights and PNC Bank's national headquarters in Pittsburgh. Learn from a professional! I will teach adults or children. I have special experience with children on the autism spectrum. (concealed information)

I am an artist through-and-through! Art is not a job you leave at the office. I regularly attend show openings and enjoy socializing with other artists in the Akron and Cleveland areas. I have a large, bright studio in the Superior Arts District.

I was asked to teach 2-D Design at the University of Akron one semester as a last-minute fill-in. I loved it! This was the year 2001, although I had always taught off and on since 1985. After that semester, I started my own program teaching children and adults in Stow, including a summer camp program!

I hold a BFA in Drawing with a minor in Painting from The University of Akron (1985).

Regarding children, I have had training in working with children on the autism spectrum. My own son is high functioning. Art provides a non-competitive activity for these children to express themselves.

About the lesson

Once I understand a student's needs, I will help them in mastering the techniques of making good composition and technique. I have worked with a large assortment of media - pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, pastel, oil pastel, gouache, oil and acrylic paints.

I have worked with students of all ages and all skill levels. As I mentioned before, I have experience working with children on the autism spectrum (as well as other learning needs).

While one on one may be most convenient, I find that a small group is best. A group of students tends to generate a creative energy in the room, and a student gets additional lessons and perspectives by noting my interraction with another student's painting/drawing issues.

I would advise looking at the art teacher's background and resume. Many people call themselves artists and bad habits learned from these individuals are very hard to change.

I am quite fond of attending the lectures at the Cleveland Museum of Art on a regular basis. Continuing self-education is always so important!
