About Bonnie

I hold a PhD in Art HIstory and Education, and have broad experience working with individuals of all ages. I teach art workshops both nationally and internationally, and bring this experience to my art studio in a downtown Spearfish SD location. I offer both private individual and small group art instruction, and can taylor my lessons to each learner's needs. I genuinely love working with people and sharing the creative process. Watching students achieve personal satisfaction doing something that they have harbored wanting to do for a long time... it is very rewarding to me.

I love art history and travel, and these two passions merge in my artwork and in my teaching. I earned a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona, Tucson, in 2016, after a 20-year career in art education in the private and public sector. Having worked with students of ages and abilities from elementary school to the university level, I am confident in my ability to share my own artistic ability and love of making art.

About the lesson

My expertise is in building comfort level by encouraging increased willingness to take creative risk. I begin my workshops by getting to know each of my students and by discussing what they would like to accomplish in our sessions. I learned best when I was able to watch a brief demonstration, therefore, this is a foundation of my instructional style. Watching a demonstration in which an artist utilzes the medium can be important to breaking down mental barriors that learners may have.
