About Andrius

With my background experience as a working artist and graphic designer, combined with my licenced teaching expertise, I can give you the broadest authentic direction for the artist within you.

The passion of creating and expressing something new for the world started long ago in my life; strong enough for me to make an accomplished career for myself. Every day is a new discovery day, with meaningful challenges and fresh insights about myself and my surrounding world.

I was lucky that my mother was a professional artist; my learning experience began in good hands at a very young age!

Much later, after my receiving my degree in the arts, I was surprised how many people had missed the joyful experience of mastering some basic art techniques. I was determined to find where these obstacles were and how I could reconnect the natural abilities of expression that I believe everyone has within.

I am a professional fine artist, graphic designer and art educator now for over 45 years, earning a BFA in Painting from the Art Institute of Chicago. My graphic work has been published internationally, my art displayed in galleries and museums in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. I have been licensed for teaching art and computer graphics in both Ohio and New York. I have also been awarded National and State Endowment Awards in Art.

About the lesson

On the first visit, you will have a casual assessment of your interests, your past experiences learning art, your expectations and goals. I will professionally evaluate your skill levels, and determine the best lesson plans for you to reach your creative destination.

We will determine the duration of the course, and plan a comfortable schedule. Your first assessment visit will be free of charge, and you will know when we will start to work together within a week.

I have been trained to teach students from kindergarten age through high school for my Ohio Teaching License from Ashland University. I have taught adult drawing studio classes in painting, drafting and printing, both to amateurs as well as advanced professionals.

Learning art also is also about learning and appreciating many other cultures; I have always enjoyed teaching foreign students, as well as learning about their culture.

In order to claim yourself as any kind of artist, you must practice your work constantly and have an authentic passion and a genuine curiosity for working;

To proclaim yourself as a professional working artist, you must be able to exhibit and sell your work. A good indicator of a committed artist is how long they have practiced their medium and if they have shared their work in public.

Art teachers are academically taught how to direct your skills and goals. They have experience teaching in schools, organizations or as tutors. Art educators are art teachers that are also professional artists.

A very important tip: many good artists are not necessarily good teachers.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some reflection time would be helpful to clarify your artistic goals. Are you interested in learning how to create realistic pictures, or are you more interested in communicating and expressing yourself? Which do you naturally take to: snapshots or scribbles? Are you interested expressing the effects of different media, or are you more interested in finely controlling them? Do you like pictures to think things through, or do you like them to astonish you?

Details

I have two courses to choose from, either course will be ongoing until we reach your goal. Your level of skills can range from absolute beginner to a professional in either course.

Drawing
Lessons in pencil control, inking skills, different types of techniques in rendering and composition, approaches in drawing objects, figures or technical drawings.

Painting
Lessons in mixing, color matching and application of paints, their approaches and finishes, and methods of painting realistically, expressively or abstract.

My course rates are $50 per session, $40 for seniors, and $30 for students. All classes are 90 minutes long per session. Any supplied art materials and books are additional, depending on the course taken.

Kindly note these art lessons are for adults only! My students must be at least 18 years of age.
