About Sue
I have twenty years of experience teaching painting and am a member of the teaching faculty at the Worcester Art Museum. My 4 week classes alternate monthly between group projects with step-by-step instruction and independent study. I keep many art supplies on hand for my students to use and/or purchase which helps offset the cost of acquiring materials for new students. I love empowering people to find satisfaction and joy through painting and energeticly share my knowledge and resources to assist them in doing so.
I began painting as a decorative artists and was teaching a tole painting class when I began playing with watercolor. My current class of tole painters asked me to teach them how to work in this medium. I complied and I haven't stopped since.
I have studied with many nationally known painters and am an avid learner. My studio includes a painting library of nearly 150 books which I make available to my students and often refer to during lessons. I have also attended RISD and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

When I am working with a new student I typically start by assessing their materials, helping them to acquire needed items at the best prices. I also ask them to share work from artists they admire. If they have painted in the past it's always helpful to see images of those paintings as well. I am comfortable working with students at all levels of experience from those who have never held a brush before to those who might need assistance completing a commision or preparing to hang a show.
I have worked with students of all levels in drawing, painting, and even marketing. I have experience working with students with disabilities.
Find someone who paints in a style that speaks to you to start and then, study with every artist you can get your hands on. You always learn something new. Actually, that's one of the things I love about painting in general...you never stop learning! At least I know that I haven't.
I recently taught a paint night event for a group a 95 girl scouts and thier moms or dads. We had a blast!

I have been taking She's classes for 16 or more years. Sue is always expanding her painting skills. She is a generous teacher. She is eager to share her knowledge in a relaxed welcoming setting. Sue attracts all types of students of all levels of art experience. We learn from each other too. Framing the art work you produce is also reasonable thanks to her framing expertise.
She was easy to follow and didn't make me feel like the beginner that I was. She is funny too. Had a great time!!

Details
My 4 week classes typically start the first week of every month. Monthly classes alternate between independent study (where students work on a painting of their choice with one-on-one instruction) and project classes (where we all work together step-by-step) on the same painting.
Classes are $65 for 4 weeks. Private lessons are $40/hr and semi-private lessons $25/hr for 2 - 3 students. Class sizes typically range between 4 - 10 students with an average of 6.
