About Nick

I have been tutoring in English and Math for a decade. I got my Bachelor's in English from Santa Clara University and my Master's in Education from University of Southern California. I have over a year of classroom experience and currently substitute and tutor professionally at Cristo Rey High School Sacramento. Academically I specialize in all areas of ELA, and personally I focus on developing close personal relationships with all my students, taking time to make learning fun when possible and connecting with them as individuals. Not only do I enjoy this type of educator-student relationship, but I believe it is most conducive to engagement and therefore deep learning.

I've tutored since I was a teenager and have been and educational professional at high schools for over a year. I've always had a passion for helping others learn and have turned that passion into a career

About the lesson

The best way for me to work effectively with a new student is for them to send me the specific material they need help comprehending (essay prompt, piece of literature, grammatical concept, etc.) at least 48 hours in advance of an in-person meeting. This way, I can come prepared with resources and strategies tailored to students' actual schoolwork in addition to the English and educational expertise I bring to every meeting.

I've worked with all kids of students from the elementary level to the college level. Ive taught ESL students as well as AP/Honors English students.

I would recommend really pinpointing your problem areas to tell the educator specific academic issues you'd like to resolve. While any aspect of ELA may take significant time to master, asking the educator "how can I structure my paragraphs better?" Will yield much quicker and better results than "how do I get good grades in ELA?"

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
All I would ask the student to do is be ready to explain their needs to me. We can go from their to set goals and a plan of action in reaching said goals.
