About Anne
I'm a teacher with 25 years of experience in both public and private schools. It's been a difficult few years for everyone, and it seems like our kids are the hardest hit not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
I would say that English Language Arts is my speciality though I'm confident in all subjects.
I'm willing to meet at my house, your house, the local library, a coffee shop, a park, a bookstore...the options are endless!
Through Adix Tutuoring, I hope to work with students who realize they are struggling and desperatly want to be successful while also understanding that success looks different for each kiddo.
Every child has been created with unique abilities, but not every child believes in those abilities. I take great joy in working with kids who need a boost of educational confidence.
In 1997 I started teaching in a California high school even though I only had a K-8 license. I enjoyed that year!
Then my family and I moved to Tacoma, WA, where I taught grades 6-8 English Language Arts in a private school.
While living in Washington, I also took a job on a Reservation. I taught 8th grade English to a class of 44!
In 2014 we moved to Denver where I went back to taching 6-8 grade English. I also found myself subbing in other schools to make a little extra money.
We moved to Illinois in 2018. My youngest daughter is a Senior at Illinois Lutheran HS in Crete. My husband is the Dean of Students at ILHS. I teach 7th grade Language Arts and 8th grade Religion.
I guess you could say that I've been in classrooms all over the country! It's been fun, and I'd love to talk to you about all my adventures sometime. :)
Both my parents are teachers, and it seems like the right fit for me after high school. I really enjoyed English and Music. I also enjoyed volunteering for Sunday School teaching and Summer Camps. Heading to college to learn how to teach was a pretty natural path for me to take.
Back in the late 90s I studied at Martin Luther College in the small town of New Ulm, MN. In 1997 I received my BS in Education. Since then I've been in self-contained classrooms, multi-grade classrooms, and single subject classrooms.
I'm an active member of The Association of Middle Level Education, and each year I take a couple classes or webinars to further my professional growth.

It's really important to build a relationship with my students. I'd love to spend a few minutes each time we meet talking about life and interests. I'm a sports fanatic, so I'll definitely talk about sports for a little bit if my student wants to!
Since all kids are created with unique and differening abilities, I've worked with all different types. All of my formal teaching experience has been with 7-8th graders; however, I did spend some time teaching 4th graders and as a substitude teacher in grades K-8
I also have experience with kiddos who have special needs. However, I'm not a Special Ed teacher. If you have a child with Special Needs, we should talk to see if I'm the right fit.
English is not easy, and not everyone loves reading. I would suggest that you find someone you like being around. Look for a teacher who clearly shows they care about you as a student. Someone who holds you to a high expectation and cheers you on until you meet it! When you find that teacher, the difficluties of English can kind of fade to the background.
My youngest daugher is a Senior in high school. She's very athletic and has played volleyball and basketball since she was little. This year she decided to run track as well. Last night (April 11) her team had a track meet. When it was done, one of her teammates said, "I'v never felt this uplifted by others! I LOVE TRACK!"
This made me smile, and I'm thrilled that my kid gets to be a part of the team.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would suggest asking yourself:
Did I read all the directions?
Did I honestly try to undetstand this before asking about it?
Am I willing to put in the work so that the tutor/student relationship is good or do I not really want this help? If you don't want the help, maybe you shouldn't hire a tutor just yet.
