About Annie

Hello! My name is Annie Langhauser, and I am a fourth year English student at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am proficient in all varieties of writing (narrative, analysis, argumentative, research, etc.), and am eager to help both high school and undergraduate students with any and all parts of the writing process! As an English major, I have experience with crafting strong papers that are articulate, insightful, and informative. I have always enjoyed writing, and have found that it is something that comes very naturally to me. Since high school, my peers and colleagues have always asked me to edit papers of theirs and I have always been happy to. I never edit with the intent to rewrite, but rather I try to enhance what is already there. My favorite thing about writing and editing is when I feel like I've finally found the perfect word or phrase to capture what exactly it is I'm trying to say, so I would love to be able to help others get to that point.

Following my graduation, I will be taking a gap year before applying to and attending law school. I am interested in offering editing services during this time to continue exercising my written communication skills, and to gain professional experience creating and interacting with a client base.

I am graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park this May (2023) with my Bachelors of Arts in English, as well as my Bachelors of Science in Family Science. I am on the Language, Writing, and Rhetoric track of the English major, and have taken a wide variety of courses that have greatly strengthened my written communication skills. I am a proficient writer in many different genres (please see my Portfolium link), and have experience working with a multitude of literature inclduing novels, poems, essays, case studies, etc.

About the lesson

I like to start by reviewing the guidelines for the assignment that the student is wanting help with, and talking to them about what the expectations for the paper are. From there, it really depends where the student is in the writing process. If they have not started, we will work together to brainstorm ideas and create an outline for the paper. If they have a draft, we will review it together and I will make edits on a separate copy, as well as provide oral feedback during our meeting. We will wrap up each session by discussing a plan for next steps - either for submission of the paper or for a follow-up meeting.
