About Michaela
I am a zookeeper by day and Spanish/Science/English Grammar tutor by night! I love teaching and tutoring and have done it in many different capacities as part of my job for the past 6 years. I used to tutor my friends in high school and college, and after that I led tours in Costa Rica for international travelers and Spanish-speaking students. I absolutely love informal and unconventional teaching strategies, because I always found they the most successfuly in helping me learn when I was younger. I always thought it best to you learn the material for myself, and not just for the sake of passing a test or a class, so I am truly passionate about all of the subjects that I tutor.

I love speaking and teaching Spanish because it gets new parts of my brain active and makes me feel as if I am traveling across the globe! I learned to speak Spanish while living abroad so it is a skill that I worked very hard for and value very much. With Science, I love that I get to use it in my work everyday at the zoo and that it is applicable in so many other avenues of life. It never gets old and continually amazes and surprises me when I get to learn new things!

I like to get to know my student as a person, because it helps me to know what their needs are going to be as a student. I want them to be comfortable with me so the first session will involve some conversation, asking questions about what they like, what they do for fun, and how they feel about the subject that I am tutoring. Once we establish a little bit of a relationship, we can dive into the subject material a little bit more heavily.
