About Leslie

Hello! Hola!

I am excited and honored to serve as your highly personalized English Tutor! I have over 10 years of experience tutoring various clientele from diverse populations. I have won several scholarships based on my essays, such as the Gates Millennium Scholarship, The UC Berkeley Leadership Award. I hold degrees from UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University, and UC San Francisco. I am bilingual and I am looking forward to working with you.

I started tutoring while in college, with community organizations and I would tutoring Engligh & Writing to high school students. I was also trained as a Verbal & Reading Comprehension SAT tutor at UC Berkeley and would hold 4 hour Saturday tutoring sessions to local high school students.

I have over 10 years of experience tutoring diverse student populations, ranging from younger adults to adult seniors (50+ yrs). Addtionally, I have written several essays that have been awarded prestigious scholarships, such as the Gates Millennium Scholars Program and admissions to elite schools, such as UCLA, UC Berkeley, Brown University, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara.

About the lesson

I start off by having a converstation and getting to know the student and what their goals and expectations are so that I can most effectively tailor my tutoring to maximize their success.

I pride myself in being culturally competent because I have worked with students that identify with backgrounds of historically underserved, historically marginalized, historically underrepresented populations.

I have also had the honor of working with older individuals, aged 50+ years of age that were learning English as a second language.

I would ask very good questions to gauge whether your tutor would be a great fit. Asking good questions is very important to ensuring success.

I was very proud that one of my students increased her SAT score very significantly for the Reading, Language & Writing, and Essay portion after taking my intensive 4 hour weekend course that spanned a semester.

I am also incredibly proud of my former students who have gained admissions to colleges.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
This is a great question - I would say, be very honest with yourself about areas of improvement so that your tutor can be able to most effectively help you reach your educational goals.

I would also suggest to be teachable and be open to feedback.
