About Hannah

As a college student myself, I am close to the struggles that being a student brings. I have experience with a wide variety of ages as I have tutored high school students but have also worked with younger levels through different types of experience like dance classes. I like to focus on making sure the student is truly learning the material, not just getting through it, but also making sure that I'm paying attention to how the student feels emotionally about a subject. I think an engaged student can do anything!

For me, tutoring is a great way to keep learning and I love engaging with other people. There is something really special about seeing the spark when a student understands something and seeing them truly grasp a concept over time! I have always really loved to learn and I want all people to feel that love, because there is so much out there.

I began teaching through a school program where I volunteered to tutor younger high school students and then found I highly enjoyed it. From there, I took on two private high school clients who I worked with for a year on high school level math.

I am currently earning a degree in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. While a high school student, I completed classes such as AP calculus and AP literature, so I am familiar with the subject matter being taught right now, and the strategies being used to teach it.

About the lesson

I like to first evaluate what level the student is currently at, and also how they feel about the subject. Do they enjoy it? Are they feeling discouraged? Then with this in mind, I focus on strengthening basic skills as well as their confidence in the subject. I like to make sure they do their own work, and I am simply helping along the way.

I have worked with high school students on tutoring, but I do have experience working with younger students through teaching dance classes for years.

I think students should look for a teacher that they think they will be able to connect to. There are a lot of qualified people prepared to teach, but there may only be a few who understand your specific method and teach in a way that makes sense to you.

Because I grew up as a dancer, I love to attend any dance performances, be it local shows or more professional ones such as Ballet Austin when I am at school.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think they should think about where their "block" occurs in their learning. At what part of the process do you become confused? Or do you feel overwhelmed from the beginning?
