About Nicole

Hello!!

My name is Nicole Giebelhaus and I am so excited to tutor you in the subjects you need some extra help in. I will work one on one with you to complete homework and other classwork assignments. I will also review specific skills needed to give you the strong foundation that will help you be successful in future grades and in your journey beyond the classroom as a lifelong learner! I look forward to meeting you and becoming your tutor!

I am a New York State certified elementary education teacher with a Master's degree in teaching Reading K-12. I have taught pre-K, first grade, third grade and am currently in an integrated 5th grade classroom. In addition to my 25 years of experience in classroom settings, I have been tutoring one on one for 30 years. I have always enjoyed being in the classroom but I truly enjoy working with students in small group or one to one settings. It is rewarding to see a student who has struggled with a subject become confident and successful after being tutored. I enjoy getting to know my students on an individual basis and also their families. My philosophy is that not only am I helping a student with an immediate problem in a school subject but I am teaching them how to be successful and to find what they are passionate about in their journey of lifelong learning.

I have always known since I was little that I would want to become a teacher and work with children. During my middle and high school years I held babysitting/nanny jobs in which I also would tutor or help the children with their homework. I went to college to become an elementary school teacher and also went on to get my Master's in teaching reading to students. I was a substitute teacher and then became a first grade teacher. I also taught pre-K and in third and fourth grade. Currently I am in a fifth grade integrated classroom. I have enjoyed every minute of this amazing journey teaching and learning alongside all the wonderful students I have met.

I am a New York State certified elementary education teacher with a Master's degree in teaching Reading K-12. I have been in the education field for more than 25 years teaching in pre-K through 6th grade. I have taught in regular, integrated and special education classrooms. Throughout my years as a classroom teacher and even before entering college, I have always tutored students one on one. Tutoring is what I enjoy most about being a teacher.
I also have taken trainings on how to help English Language Learners learn how to read in English while drawing upon their reading abilities learned in their native language.

About the lesson

My typical process for working with a new student is to first talk to their parents/guardians about their academic strengths and needs. This will give me a great overview on where to begin in helping the student strengthen the specific skills in the subjects they are struggling with. I then will meet with the student and get to know them by asking what their "favorites" are including favorite books to read, movies to watch, songs to listen to, toys to play with and anything else that will help me form a relationship with the student.
My typical tutoring session lasts an hour in which I will always help the student with their classwork/homework assignments first. After that we will concentrate on reviewing and stengthening specific skills that will help the student be successful in the subjects they are struggling with. I like to play educational games to teach/review those skills and aim to make it a fun and engaging time with the student.

I have worked with many different students ranging from the little ones in Pre-K and through the elementary level grades up to students in 8th grade. I have worked with regular education students and students who have learning disabilities and special needs. Every student I have worked with has enriched my life with their amazing determination to become a successful lifelong learner.

My standard pricing system for my lessons is $25.00 per hour. My tutoring sessions last one hour and are given online through FaceTime or Zoom.
