I like to get to know my student first and make conversation. I later incorporate this information onto the tutoring to assist with understanding. I gage the learning level of the student with things like concept checking questions and then move forward with the process.
I have worked with 5-12 year olds, high school students, college students and up.
Please don't be afraid to make errors and ask questions!!
I was teaching prepositional phrases in my online classroom and was very proud once the students had the moment where they understood. I eat AT lunchtime instead of on or in.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should mention strengths and weaknesses on subject matter and areas they need help. They can bring up specific questions on the subject matter.
