About Gizelle
I am an undergraduate student at Columbia University majoring in Classics. Thus, I am trained in Latin and Ancient Greek. This not only prepares me to instruct in the grammar of these ancient languages but also to edit essays and teach essay writing skills. I am also fluent in Italian and can tutor beginners.
As a Columbia student, I've taken several relevant courses in essay-writing — my skills certainly surpass those required for elementary and middle school students. I've worked with children aged 11 - 14 before and attended a high school that necessitated the frequent instruction of elementary school students. I'm approachable, kind, and patient.

First, I introduce myself and ask several age-appropriate questions about the student (ie "What do you do for fun? Do you have any pets? What is the most fun thing you did this week?"). Then, I ask what they're learning in class and ask what exactly they're having trouble with; I ask if they're been given any handouts that clearly explain the rubric, especially for essay-writing. Each time I make a recommendation, I'm sure to explain why such a change should be implemented so that the child never feels inadequate.
