About Darlene
Experience Summary:
I have a passion for teaching, especially Spelling, Reading, Writing, and History. I have experience teaching English as a second language and adult education GED classes. I speak some Spanish. I am a published author and won 1st place in the Texas State Historical manuscript competition. I have an AA degree in Liberal Arts and graduated with honors. I have been working in Special Ed (Elementary) and have seen amazing results with my kids as we go step by step to cover any building blocks they have missed in previous years.
Teaching Style:
I give my students individual attention and adjust my style to the student's needs. I look for ways to make it fun to learn and try to spark that flame that will make them want to learn more. I am professional while being flexible, I push for success in a gentle but firm manner. I want to help my students experience those "lightbulb" moments when they grasp an idea for the first time or feel that sense of accomplishment when they pass that test that they were so worried about.
I enjoy meeting kids and learning what they like and what interests them, what makes them laugh, what makes them feel empathy, what gives them drive and determination.
