About Katie
I am a full-time Elementary School teacher based in San Francisco, CA. I have experience working with students ranging from elementary age to adulthood in a variety of subjects from English, Math, and Foreign Language. I can tutor K-8 students in multiple subjects and can tutor high school students in Government and History. I also offer Arabic tutoring (Modern Standard Arabic and Levantine dialect). I also specialize in working with biligual students and students with a variety of learning strengths.
My experiences as a classroom teacher and adult education facilitator enable me to work with a wide range of learners and individualize my instruction to support student progress. My approach to education focuses on rigor through interactive and inquiry based learning. I begin by understanding your student and his or her unique strengths and goals, then I tailor my instructional methods to create a path to achievement.
I love bringing out the natural curiosity that children and teens have. I've found that too often, students who are struggling with or not enjoying a subject have simply not been engaged. My passion is connecting student learning to things they're already interested in, and working to deeply engage them in their own learning process.
I have been working for almost a year as a Math and Literacy teacher in a public charter school. I attended Loyola Marymount University for my certificate in Urban Education, and attended George Washington University for my Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs and Politics. I have also worked extensively with adults looking to enter or re-enter the job market, and understand how to facilitate learning for older students. I have also tutored high school students in English and college essay writing in the past.
