About Samuel

Any high school class and many online websites can give you a basic knowledge of different vocabulary words and grammar topics. As someone who has learned and taught Spanish as a second language, however, I know the process in a way that few others do. I will give you the necessary knowledge and tools of grammar and vocab that you need, but I will also focus on getting you ready to use your Spanish abilities in real life. What most counts in the learning of a language are personal experiences with that language, and that is what I will prepare you to have.

I love the Spanish language. I love being able to continue to learn new ways to teach the language. I also love helping people grow and achieve their goals since it brings me a lot of satisfaction.

I had the opportunity to serve as a full-time volunteer among immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries for 2 years. During that time I taught English as a second language to immigrants and Spanish as a second language to other volunteers.

I recently spent two years as a full-time missionary for my church serving among Spanish-speaking immigrants near Atlanta, Georgia. During that time I spake almost only Spanish and I came to speak, understand, and teach it like few others there could. It was during those years that I learned the process of how to learn a foreign language as well as how to teach one.

About the lesson

One of the most important things is for a new student to feel comfortable and motivated. I do this by striving to help new students feel at ease as I get to know them and then by evaluating their current level and needs. I help them set goals and have a clear vision of what they want to accomplish, and then I help them set out and accomplish those goals.

I have mainly worked with adult students who have had little to no previous knowledge of Spanish, but I am willing to work with anyone willing to learn.

Look for someone who gives you enough instruction on how to speak Spanish and who gives you plenty of opportunity to do so. Knowledge of grammar and vocabulary is necessary but insufficient. The most important thing is personal experience with the language. Look for someone who will give you practice and guidance on how to immerse yourself in the language and use it with native speakers.
